”Education became an integral part of our family after Asha’s intervention”- Mohini

Mohini is a nineteen-year-old girl who has been an inspiration in her slum community by scoring 85% (Grade A) in her 12th Board Examination last year. Her father who is a painter earns Rs 7000 (102.83$/ £78.16 ) a month to run a family of seven members.

Financial crisis compelled all her siblings to drop out of the school. This was when Asha came to their rescue, parents were counselled on the importance of education and financial help was also provided. Today, all her elder siblings are educated, and the younger ones are continuing their studies.

Mohini recalls, “I always accompanied my sister Kanta who is an active Asha volunteer to the children’s association meetings. My inclination to be a part of Asha’s children association grew when I saw kids studying and playing together in the centre. Education then became an integral part of our family.”

Mohini thanks Asha for helping her in every possible way. Today Mohini believes in her abilities and pursuing her Bachelor Degree from Delhi University and plans to go for further higher studies.

Currently, Mohini is interning at the Australian High Commission.
