On September 28, 2025, Friends of Asha USA hosted a wonderful gathering, beautifully organized by the Sacramento chapter under the leadership of board members Dr. Nalini Prasad and Manmohan Passi. A dedicated committee of seven worked tirelessly to make the event a success.
Dr. Kiran Martin shared insights into Asha’s work, with a special focus on the Lal Bagh communities, where the organization began outreach earlier this year. She highlighted the catastrophic living conditions the residents face daily and spoke about the wide range of healthcare services already underway, while emphasizing the immense work that still lies ahead. Dr. Martin shared her dream of seeing a student from Lal Bagh, where children are often forced to scavenge instead of attending school, walk through the gates of Delhi University—an aspiration made possible through the support of Friends of Asha.
The response from attendees was deeply moving. Many generous supporters, including long-standing Friends of Asha, expressed appreciation and reaffirmed their commitment to the cause. The evening was further enriched by a delicious Indian meal prepared by Mehfil restaurant, with drinks kindly donated by various Friends of Asha.
Dr. Martin concluded by thanking everyone present, especially the organizing committee: Dr. Nalini Prasad, Manmohan Passi, Beeba Passi, Sunita Kapoor, Dr. Howard Homler, Shalini Goyal, and Manjit Ahuja. She noted: “Though Delhi is far away, your care has crossed the oceans. You have not only given us this evening, you have built a bridge of compassion betw
