The British High Commissioner Sir Dominic Asquith KCMG organised a reception at his residence to celebrate Chevening scholar Chandan’s journey to the UK. The august gathering included Australian High Commissioner- HE Ms. Harinder Sidhu, senior diplomats from various embassies, other eminent dignitaries, meritorious students from Asha slums and the Asha team.
Sir Dominic started by congratulating Chandan and mentioning that Chandan will be a role model, mentor and an inspiration for thousands of students from the slums aspiring to become successful in various fields.
Dr. Kiran shared a visual presentation about Chandan’s life from Jeevan Nagar slum to the hallowed portals to Delhi University and further to Australian National University and now heading towards the UK. Dr. Kiran mentioned how Chandan represented thousands of Asha children.
Chandan began on an emotional note looking back at his journey. He thanked Sir Dominic for his unstinted and continuous support for the last two years in making it possible for him to pursue the Master’s Programme in the UK. He thanked Sweeta and the Asha team at Jeevan Nagar for being an integral and indispensable part of his life’s journey.
Chandan expressed gratitude to Dr. Kiran for scripting the story of his life in a way that fulfilled his potential in spite of the most challenging circumstances faced. She was more than a mother to him besides being his friend, philosopher, guide and mentor. He also thanked his parents for their support that helped him to grow. He mentioned that as a Chevening Scholar, he will help other slum students. He said that the best way to express gratitude is to help other students facing similar situations to grow and achieve success in life.
