It is widely known today that COVID-19 is spread through respiratory droplets. To reduce the spread of this virus, WHO has recommended wearing masks in public settings along with maintaining social distancing measures. With the rising cases in India, Asha realised the urgent need to accommodate each slum dweller with a cloth mask that is washable and can be reused.
India’s caseload is now in excess of 700,000, with the most rapid rise in New Delhi and Mumbai. The masks and face covers worn by many poor slum families are unclean and unhygienic, mainly due to the financial inability to buy masks, and cleaning supplies. We have been distributing washable cloth masks to the poorest and the neediest.”
