From Local to Global: Juhi’s Asha-Inspired Odyssey

Juhi, an inspiring Asha graduate, is making waves at the University of Sydney, where she’s pursuing her master’s in public health under the prestigious Asha India Equity Scholarship. Since arriving in January, Juhi has fully embraced the values she learned at Asha and is now actively practicing them both on campus and back in her Delhi slum community.

Juhi was warmly welcomed by her fellow Asha scholars—Tushar, Sunny, and Sumit—who helped her settle into this new chapter of her life. Their mentorship was invaluable in helping her navigate the challenges of being in a foreign environment, and now, Juhi is paying it forward. She assists new Equity Scholars at the university, helping them adjust to their new surroundings and sharing her own journey to ease their transition. Her commitment to making others feel at home is a reflection of the strong community values instilled in her by Asha.

In addition to her studies, Juhi is actively involved in several initiatives. She volunteers with the University of Sydney Student Union (USU), contributing to campus life and making meaningful connections. Moreover, she participates in the Uni2beyond program, which supports students with disabilities, showing her dedication to inclusivity and service. Juhi’s compassion and leadership have made her a role model for many, both within and outside the university.

But Juhi’s impact doesn’t stop at Sydney. She remains deeply connected to her roots, continuing to give back to the Kalkaji and Tigri slum communities in Delhi. Juhi conducts Values Classes for students from these communities, teaching them the importance of core principles and how to integrate them into their daily lives. What makes these classes even more special is the creativity and fresh ideas the students bring, turning the sessions into a dynamic two-way learning experience.

Juhi’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of the Asha values and how they can transform lives. Through her efforts, she’s not only making a difference on an international scale but also empowering the next generation back home. Juhi’s story is a beacon of hope, a reminder that no matter where life takes you, it’s always possible to give back and inspire others to do the same.
