Asif from Asha’s Zakhira slum community lives in a one-room shanty with a family of 7. His father works in a factory in the neighborhood, in appalling and dangerous conditions. He has been a member of the Asha family since he was a child. He had to drop a year at high school because of a major illness.
However, through his own determination and with the relentless support of the Asha family, he picked himself up and continued his education. And guess what! He has just got a place at Delhi University. He will read History and Office Management as his primary subjects.
What a wonderful miracle. So much poverty, so much hardship, and yet here he is today. It’s a long road ahead, but we are in this together. Asif, you will succeed and find your place in the world.
